Melbourne WebFest selections: Forse Sono Io: Must Be Me

The next preview of our Melbourne WebFest selection series, is Must Be Me by Vincenzo Alfieri.

Ahead of the inaugural Melbourne Web Series Festival on 20 July, we’re profiling all 30 series that made the Official Selection list. Next up is Forse Sono Io: Must Be Me, created by Vincenzo Alfieri.

“Did you ever go through a period in your life where everything goes wrong? Maybe long term partners, who seem to love you and  seem to be perfect, for no reason, after a while, turn out to be completely different from what they seemed?”

If the answer is yes then you’ll ask yourself, Must Be Me?

Filmed in Rome, is the series that tells the story of Mike, a young actor who can’t find his big break. Mike’s love life is also taking a turn for the worse, as he’s unable to find a ‘normal’ girl in his life. The series gets interesting once Mike’s three closest friends find a way to take advantage of his misadventures. Mike soon discovers that his dearest of friends have exploited his love life to create an online gambling website.

What do you want people to take away from your series?

In our series we have situations that are part of everyday life, some of which are specific to Italian life at the moment, especially in terms of finding work. Young people here often find it difficult to make their own way in the world. Mike, the lead role, also endures seeing him love life shared on Internet through a gambling site opened by his closest friends.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome in production?

This web series was our first production. Initial difficulties were tied to bureaucracy. Here in Ital,y web series are not understood much or appreciated by the film and television world. In fact, all the red tape here makes it tougher for potential creators to get involved in the web series industry, unfortunately.
