The Campaigners

With our election coverage underway, it's time to meet our team tasked with analysing the ups and downs of the campaign.

With our election coverage starting to – slowly – ramp up, it seemed the perfect time to introduce our motley crew of Canberra press gallery wannabes, tasked with covering the campaign.

As always, we’re eager to hear from you.  Do you have a story idea that you’d like to pitch? Is there a particular issue you want to talk about? Who do you think will win the election, and why? Do you have a scoop to make upstart the most widely read publication in Australia?

Whatever it is, drop us a line at contact@upstart.net.au or tweet us at @upstartmagazine.

But, without further ado, the team…

Liam Quinn

Liam is a third-year Bachelor of Journalism student, and editor of upstart’s election coverage. His love of politics was forged at an early age around the dinner table, and only strengthened during a three-year stint pulling pints in the Oxfordshire countryside and engaging in insightful conversation with Stella infused locals. He’s been lucky enough to roam the hallowed halls of parliament thrice, each time heading back down the Hume Highway with a growing desire to make it his office one day.

Adria De Fazio

Adria is completing her last year of a Bachelor of Journalism. She has completed a Crikey-led internship at the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Canberra. She hopes to find a job combining her love of politics and broadcast at the end of her studies. When parliament is sitting, 2PM is her favourite time, as part of the very small group of people that chooses to watch Question Time.

Bridget Rollason

Bridget is a third-year Bachelor of Journalism student. She’s taken part in Crikey’s Canberra internship twice in 2013, as well as completing separate internships with ABC and WIN. Once she leaves behind the drudgery of higher education, a career in broadcast is the goal. When not busy trying to get a tweet televised on Q & A, she’s an unabashed political junkie, and avid blog reader.

Hayden Morris

Hayden is a third year Bachelor of Journalism (Sport) student. He is a freelance artist who spends his time poking fun at what would otherwise be considered serious situations, and hopes to find work as a political cartoonist in the future.

Jake Stevens

Jake is a first-year Bachelor of Journalism (Sport) student. With one eye on the AFL finals and the other on the looming federal election, Jake enjoys recording statistics and drawing coloured bar charts on the computer and calling them ‘infographics’.

Kimberley Thomson

Kimberley is a first-year journalism student, freelance writer and gawky intern. She aims to become a journalistic Frankenstein, combining the ferocity of Hunter Thompson, the charm of Annabel Crabb, and the hair of Hildy Johnson.

Erdem Koc, journalism lecturer at La Trobe University and executive editor of upstart magazine, will be fielding many late night phone calls and frantic text messages to assist the team.
