Developing best practices in digital journalism

upstart's editor-in-chief Lawrie Zion will be delivering a paper at La Trobe University on Thursday about his new project.

Lawrie ZionLast year, this publication’s editor-in-chief, Lawrie Zion, launched a new blog as part of upstart called “best practices“.  It’s part of Dr Zion’s new research project into best practices in digital journalism.

As part of La Trobe’s Department of Journalism and Strategic Communication staff seminars for 2013, Dr Zion will deliver a paper about his project that will discuss how the term ‘best practices’ is becoming an increasingly useful framing device for understanding and applying the ethical complexities of digital journalism.

“In my seminar I’ll discuss some case studies in Australia and North America that attempt to identify and codify best practices, and suggest how these might enhance journalism practice in their respective environments,” he says.

Dr Zion is co-editing a book on the subject for Routledge in New York that is due to be published in 2014. His paper will be delivered on Thursday, 21 March at 1.00pm in HU2 407.

All staff and students are welcome to attend.
